Sammy the Sand Dollar was Mermaid Nina’s first Children’s book. Her goal with this book was to teach people that Sand Dollars are living things and when people collect them off the beach, often times they are killing them. Many people take living sand dollars from the beaches because they can’t tell the difference between living and dead sand dollars.
Sammy The Sand Dollar - Sammy is a sand dollar who loves to go on adventures with his friends, Stu the starfish, and Lily the dolphin. One day, their adventure takes them too close to shore and Sammy is put in danger when a person takes him out of the water. How can Stu and Lily save their friend when they can’t leave the ocean’s safety?
Luckily, a child on the beach sees what happens and takes action to return Sammy to where he belongs: in the water.
Sammy the Sand Dollar teaches children basic language skills while informing them about aquatic wildlife. Kids will love going on an adventure with Sammy and his friends, and they’ll learn the importance of respecting nature and all of it’s animals.
The Mermaid of Hilton Head was Mermaid Nina’s second children’s book. It was written and illustrated by her when she was evacuated from the island by hurricane Mathew.
The Mermaid of Hilton Head didn’t always live around the island; she used to travel up and down the East Coast with her mermaid pod. When passing by Hilton Head Island, she often noticed that the sea turtles seem stressed. The mermaid set out to investigate the problem and find a solution save the turtles!
After discovering a simple solution to the turtles’ problem the Mermaid of Hilton Head dedicates her life to making sure the island’s sea turtles are safe and happy.

Mermaid Nina wrote and illustrated her next children’s book, Dolphin Adventures to educate people about why it is important not feed the wild dolphins of Hilton Head.
Dolphin Adventures - The Mermaid of Hilton Head is back for another adventure! This time, she’s on a quest to save the area’s dolphins from becoming injured by boats’ propellers when boaters try to feed the beautiful creatures. But how can she find a trustworthy human to help her?
Thankfully, Captain Rick enters the scene, assisting the Mermaid of Hilton Head in educating boaters so her dolphin friends are kept safe and happy.
The next book Mermaid Nina wrote and illustrated was a Christmas book that helps raise awareness of the damage that is being done to the coral reefs.
A Christmas Coral - The Mermaid of Hilton Head is at it again in A Christmas Coral, and this time, she has a famous, jolly man along for the ride! The mermaid is swimming along one day when she notices that the coral on the ocean floor is turning white. She sets off to investigate what could be causing this, as she wants to save the coral and the ocean! She finds the solution with a surprising person: Santa Claus! Together, they are determined to solve the problem and get the oceans back to their healthy, normal selves. Will Santa and the Mermaid of Hilton Head be able to figure out what’s going on with the coral? You’ll have to read to find out!
After many requests, Mermaid Nina put together the Mermaid Conservation Coloring Book. This book has 25 unique images that will keep the kids occupied for hours. Color along as the Mermaid of Hilton Head swims with turtles, dolphins, sharks and more. When you ask Mermaid Nina about why she writes children's books her answer is simple. "It's a good way to educate. You can talk all day long about what is right and what is wrong but if you can connect people with the animals being affected by their actions you can really educate them and get them to care. If you educate them about what is right and wrong then they make changes and do the right thing. Children's books are something to which everyone can relate. Kids and adults both enjoy reading and learning along the way."
The Mermaid of Hilton Head is always working on her next project. Make sure you sign up for our newsletter so you can stay up to date as to when the next children’s book is getting published.
